Paul Jones is coming to talk about his practice in week 4. Paul currently works as a photographer and videographer for the Strategic Marketing and Communications Unit at UOW.

Paul has previously worked as a staff photographer for the Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian Financial Review and as a freelance photojournalist for The Australian, The Sun Herald, The London Times, The Guardian, Associated Press Agency and Agence France Presse.

He was in South Africa to witness the end of apartheid in 1993 to 1994. And has spent two years in Jerusalem 1996 to 1998, documenting the Israel/Palestine conflict. He has also worked as a sound recordist and camera-man for TCN Nine Network television news.

In 2001 he produced his first book It’s Only A Job with friend and colleague, Phil Thornton. In 2005 took up the position of Photo Editor for The Business Review Weekly Magazine based in Melbourne, Australia. Paul now works in the Media Communications Unit at the Wollongong University as a photographer, videographer and writer.

He says,

I feel very privileged to do a job that I enjoy on a daily basis… I encourage young up and coming artists, photographers, video makers, sculptors to pursue a career for love, (then money usually follows).

This is a great opportunity to get insights into how one may pursue one’s passion and traces the steps to a successful practice.

Below is the video piece Paul put together for the Grad Show 2016.

The lecture will be held in the DMC gallery.
